Michael Bundy, President, and CEO
Body armor, bullet proof vests, ballistic plates, bullet resistant armor, personnel armor, and dozens of other names used to describe ballistic-resistant products is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment utilized by military and law enforcement personnel. Body armor has existed since the earliest periods of organized warfare. Modern developments such as high-strength man-made fibers and composites along with ceramics and metals, protect wearers against bullets, fragments, and edged/blade weapons. As many lives are entrusted to the proper functioning of body armor, it is necessary to ensure equipment is reliable and complies with industry and government performance standards.
Leading the efforts since 1997, HighCom Armor, a global provider of body armor and personal protective equipment, who prioritizes quality above all to ensure their products meet their company’s mission. “Our mission is simple, and that is to save lives,” explains Michael Bundy, President and CEO of HighCom Armor. “We want to ensure those who protect us return home safely and we are honored to have saved countless lives by supplying body armor and protective equipment to America’s law enforcement, first responders, and military personnel over the past 24 years.”
Over the years, HighCom Armor has designed, tested, manufactured, and commercialized a wide range of body armor and personal protective equipment that meet or exceed national, international, and military standards including the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and Military Standard (Mil-Std) body armor standards and testing protocols. HighCom’s reputation in the defense space is exemplified by a commitment to quality reinforced by a quality management system that is ISO 9001:2015 certified. The company is also the first company in the world to achieve BA9000 certification, a quality management standard developed and published by the NIJ for the design and manufacturing of Body Armor. Additionally, HighCom Armor maintains ten million dollars of product liability insurance coverage and provides an industry best 10-year warranty on its NIJ 0101.06 compliant products. This insurance and warranty commitment is well above and beyond many competitors and is yet another testament to the company’s industry distinction and best-in-class service.
HighCom Armor continues to stand out among others in the industry, with its twenty-four-year history and defense industrial base critical supply chain positioning of delivering millions of pieces of armor deployed worldwide. “HighCom Armor has never had a failure, a penetration, or recall of its armor products”, that is extremely rare for anybody to be able to say from a manufacturing and distribution standpoint,” said Mr. Bundy. This flawless track record is not just a slogan but the deep desire and commitment from a team of industry leading professionals and experts focused from the factory floor to the delivery dock and down range supporting tomorrow war fighter and heroes on the front line to serve and protect our communities nationwide.
We design, develop, test, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of body armor and personal protective equipment that both meet and exceed national, international, and military standards
HighCom Armor has succeeded in awards across several critical and world-class contract vehicles for purchasing its armor, including the general Services Administration Schedule (GSA), National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO), and most recently the Sourcewell contract for supplying body armor and related accessories. Additionally, the company works with local and regional agencies throughout the United States in support of the Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) program which is a federally funded grant program helping jurisdictions get reimbursed for the cost of body armor. “There’s a lot of underserved, state, local, and other municipalities throughout the United States that don’t always have the financial resources to afford this critical protective equipment for our first responders, and this is where the BVP resource can add an additional layer of support to our front-line heroes.” stated Mr. Bundy.
At its core, HighCom Armor has a team of experts handling operations, engineering design, ballistic testing, manufacturing process control, quality assurance, program management, and supply chain. They are vital to HighCom Armor’s capability to inspect, test, and validate the complete life-cycle management from raw materials, work in progress, to finished goods. Adding to its industry distinctions, HighCom Armor also has an in-house state-of-the-art ballistics testing laboratory supporting the development and quality control of hard and soft body armor, helmets, shields, armor inserts, and tactical armor systems. This ensures products receive an extra stamp of approval regarding quality before reaching the end-users.
In one instance, a law enforcement agency had been testing armor through extreme conditions from several leading manufacturers in the country and had stringent demands on its requirements. The client determined HighCom’s products best fit their higher standard requirements, but more improvements were necessary to fit their specific department desired configuration and deployment purpose. HighCom’s design and development engineering team collaborated with the client to incorporate additional improvements and custom designed a specific component as part of the protective kit proposed to meet their rigorous demands, and over a few short weeks following submitting prototypes for testing and evaluation, produced a product that not only outfitted several hundred officers, but ultimately led to the improvement and roll out of a commercialized protective solution the company was able to deliver to many other first responder agencies throughout the country.
Moving forward, HighCom Armor continues to focus on innovating process controls and manufacturing automation within its manufacturing facility to ensure more efficiency and effectiveness in its next generation of protective platforms. Recently, HighCom Armor combined forces with XTEK Limited, an Australian defense and security technology company, to further design and innovate on future material science initiatives creating incredibly light and high performing armor solutions. In 2021 the companies are launching several new innovative ballistic-resistant products from head to toe in its efforts to combat operator load and a significant reduction in operator fatigue. Its latest flexible choices and an advanced suite of next generation of ballistic helmets, armor plates, soft armor vests, and other armor solutions using the world’s most advanced material science in body armor are coming to market today.
